Bonfida

Bonfida is the protocol behind the Solana Name Service (SNS), enabling users to register human-readable .sol domain names that map to Solana wallet addresses. Instead of sharing long cryptographic addresses, users can send and receive tokens using memorable names like "username.sol". The .sol domain system works similarly to traditional DNS — users register domain names through Bonfida's interface, and those names resolve to their Solana wallet address. Anyone can send SOL or SPL tokens to a .sol domain, and the system routes the transaction to the correct wallet. This dramatically improves the user experience for cryptocurrency transfers by replacing error-prone address copying with simple name resolution. Beyond basic name resolution, .sol domains support subdomains, custom records (linking Twitter handles, websites, IPFS content), and tokenization as NFTs. Domain owners can sell or transfer their names on NFT marketplaces, creating a secondary market for desirable names. The domains integrate with major Solana wallets including Phantom, Solflare, and Backpack. Bonfida also offers additional developer tools and APIs for the Solana ecosystem. The SNS SDK allows applications to integrate .sol domain resolution, and the protocol provides name lookup services for building user-friendly interfaces. The FIDA governance token provides voting rights over protocol parameters and name registration policies.
