What STEPN actually does.

STEPN is a move-to-earn lifestyle app built on Solana that rewards users with crypto tokens for walking, jogging, or running outdoors. Users purchase NFT sneakers, equip them in the app, and earn GST (Green Satoshi Token) and GMT (Green Metaverse Token) based on their physical activity. The app uses GPS tracking and motion sensors to verify movement and prevent cheating. Different sneaker types are optimized for different speeds — Walkers for 1-6 km/h, Joggers for 4-10 km/h, Runners for 8-20 km/h, and Trainers for 1-20 km/h. Each sneaker has attributes (Efficiency, Luck, Comfort, Resilience) that affect earning rates and can be leveled up through use. STEPN was one of the first major move-to-earn applications and achieved significant mainstream adoption during 2022-2023, attracting millions of users globally. The Solana version benefits from near-zero transaction costs, making the frequent small token distributions from daily walking economically viable. Beyond basic earning, STEPN features a sneaker marketplace for trading NFTs, a crafting system for minting new sneakers from existing ones, and gem slots for customizing sneaker attributes. The dual-token economy (GST for daily earnings, GMT for governance and premium features) creates a layered economic model.
