Overview

What Pendle actually does.

Pendle is a yield tokenization protocol that splits yield-bearing assets into two components: Principal Tokens (PT) and Yield Tokens (YT). This separation lets users trade, hedge, and speculate on future yield independently of the underlying principal — a building block borrowed from traditional fixed-income markets and brought on-chain. With PT and YT, users can lock in fixed rates by holding principal tokens, or gain leveraged, variable exposure to yield by holding yield tokens. This unlocks strategies that are otherwise hard to express in DeFi, such as betting on rising yields, hedging against falling ones, or securing a predictable return. Pendle is expanding natively to Solana, bringing its proven yield-trading infrastructure to the ecosystem and giving Solana DeFi users access to fixed-rate and yield-speculation tooling. For a chain with a growing base of yield-bearing assets, this adds a mature primitive for managing rate exposure. Yield tokenization is a sophisticated DeFi primitive — the mechanics of PT, YT, and yield maturities have a learning curve and are best suited to users comfortable with DeFi risk. Speculating on future yield is inherently uncertain, and as a native Solana expansion, the depth of available markets and liquidity will develop over time.
