What Pyth Network actually does.

Pyth Network is a high-fidelity oracle network that delivers real-time price data to Solana and other blockchains. Unlike traditional oracles that source data from public APIs, Pyth aggregates price feeds directly from major trading firms, exchanges, and market makers, providing institutional-quality pricing data for DeFi protocols. Pyth's data contributors include some of the largest names in traditional and crypto finance — firms like Jane Street, Citadel Securities, Binance, and dozens of other institutional market participants feed their proprietary price data into the network. This first-party data model produces more accurate and timely prices than oracles that scrape public exchange APIs. On Solana, Pyth publishes price updates approximately every 400 milliseconds — making it one of the fastest oracle networks available. This speed is critical for DeFi protocols that need real-time pricing for trading, lending, derivatives, and liquidation calculations. Major Solana DeFi protocols including Drift, Marginfi, Jupiter Perps, and Zeta Markets rely on Pyth for their price feeds. Pyth has expanded to a pull-based oracle model where applications request price updates on-demand rather than relying on continuous push updates.
