Overview

What Sunrise actually does.

Sunrise is a Solana-focused liquidity gateway built by Wormhole Labs that enables major new assets to launch on Solana with immediate day-one liquidity. It uses Native Token Transfers to give token issuers a path to push assets directly into the Solana ecosystem with pre-seeded liquidity pools, rather than launching to an empty market with no depth. The core problem Sunrise tackles is the friction of bringing external assets onto Solana. Traditionally this involved wrapped tokens and complex multi-bridge flows, which fragment liquidity and add risk. Sunrise eliminates the need for wrapped tokens, letting issuers offer a native asset experience on Solana from launch. For token issuers, the value proposition is a smoother go-to-market on Solana: assets arrive with liquidity already in place, so traders can transact immediately and the asset doesn't suffer the cold-start problem that hampers many new listings. This makes Solana a more attractive launch destination for projects originating elsewhere. The caveats are that Sunrise is infrastructure aimed at token issuers rather than a tool for everyday traders, and like all cross-chain systems it depends on bridging technology — here, Wormhole's — which carries inherent cross-chain risk. As a gateway for new asset launches, the benefit it delivers is also only as strong as the quality and demand for the assets that choose to use it.
