Managing a Solana DeFi portfolio across multiple protocols — DEX positions, LP pools, lending markets, staking, and token holdings — can quickly become overwhelming. Step Finance was built to solve this problem: it's a unified dashboard that pulls data from every major Solana protocol and presents your complete financial picture in one place.
This guide walks through every major Step Finance feature, from basic portfolio tracking to advanced LP position management and yield optimization.
What Is Step Finance?
Step Finance is Solana's original and most comprehensive portfolio management platform. It launched in 2021 and has continuously expanded to support new protocols and asset types as the Solana ecosystem grew.
Key features:
- Portfolio overview: Total value of all assets across all wallets
- LP position tracking: Monitor impermanent loss, fees earned, and current value of Raydium, Orca, and Meteora positions
- Yield farming dashboard: Track rewards accumulating across DeFi protocols
- Transaction history: Categorized history of all on-chain activity
- Yield analytics: Compare APYs across protocols in one view
- Step token (STEP): Native token with xSTEP staking for a share of platform fees
Getting Started with Step Finance
Step 1: Go to app.step.finance
Open app.step.finance in your browser. Step is a web app — no download required.
Step 2: Connect your wallet
Click Connect Wallet in the top right. Step supports all major Solana wallets:
Step is a read-only dashboard by default — connecting your wallet allows it to read your on-chain data, but it cannot make transactions unless you explicitly approve them.
Step 3: View your portfolio overview
Once connected, the dashboard loads your portfolio automatically:
- Total portfolio value (in USD)
- Assets breakdown: Tokens, LP positions, staked assets, NFTs
- Performance chart: Portfolio value over time (1D, 7D, 30D, all-time)
- Protocol breakdown: How much value is in each DeFi protocol
Tracking Token Holdings
The Tokens section shows all SPL tokens in your wallet:
- Current balance and USD value
- 24h price change
- Percentage of total portfolio
- Token logo and name (with fallback for unknown tokens)
You can filter by minimum value to hide dust positions, and sort by value, change, or alphabetically.
For tokens with multiple wallet addresses (e.g., you have three wallets), Step lets you add multiple wallets to a single view — giving you a consolidated portfolio across all your addresses.
LP Position Monitoring
This is where Step Finance truly shines. LP positions are complex: the underlying token amounts change with every trade in the pool, fees accumulate separately, and impermanent loss can eat into your returns.
Step automatically detects LP positions across:
For each LP position, Step shows:
| Metric | What It Means |
|---|
| Current value | USD value of your position right now |
| Initial value | What you deposited |
| Fees earned | Cumulative trading fees collected |
| IL (Impermanent Loss) | How much IL has occurred vs holding |
| Net P&L | Total return after IL and fees |
| APR estimate | Annualized fee yield on your position |
Reading your LP analytics
To view LP details:
- Go to the LP Positions tab
- Select a pool
- Step shows your entry price, current price range (for CLMM/DLMM), and performance metrics
For concentrated liquidity positions (Orca Whirlpools, Meteora DLMM, Raydium CLMM), Step shows whether your position is in range or out of range. An out-of-range position earns zero fees — this is important to monitor actively.
Yield Farming Dashboard
The Farms section shows all yield farming positions:
- Raydium farms (RAY rewards)
- Orca farm positions
- Kamino automated vaults
- Other protocol reward positions
For each farm, you see:
- Deposited value
- Pending rewards (in token terms and USD value)
- Current APR (updated from on-chain data)
- Time since last harvest
Step can trigger reward harvests directly from the dashboard — click "Harvest" and approve the transaction in your wallet. This saves navigating to each protocol individually.
Transaction History
The Transactions section provides a categorized history of all your on-chain activity:
- Swaps: Token exchanges with input/output amounts and fees
- LP actions: Deposits and withdrawals from liquidity pools
- Staking: Stake and unstake events
- Transfers: SOL and token transfers in/out
- DeFi interactions: Lending deposits, borrows, repayments
Each transaction shows a human-readable description, the wallet involved, and links to Solscan for full transaction details.
This is useful for tax purposes — many users export their Step transaction history to crypto tax software like Koinly or CoinLedger.
Staking Tracker
Step tracks native SOL staking positions:
- Validator name and commission
- Staked SOL amount
- Accrued rewards (pending + historical)
- Effective APY from the validator
For liquid staking (JitoSOL, mSOL, JupSOL), your LST holdings appear in the Tokens section with the underlying SOL value displayed.
Multi-Wallet View
One of Step's most useful features for power users: multi-wallet tracking.
To add multiple wallets:
- Click the wallet selector in the top right
- Select "Add Wallet"
- Paste the address of any additional wallet
- All wallets are aggregated into one portfolio view
You can add both your own wallets and watch any public wallet — useful for tracking wallets you're copying or monitoring smart money movements.
Step Token (STEP) and xSTEP Staking
Step Finance has its own native token, STEP. By staking STEP, you receive xSTEP — a yield-bearing version that accumulates a share of Step's platform fee revenue.
How xSTEP works
- Go to the xSTEP section in Step Finance
- Stake your STEP tokens to receive xSTEP
- xSTEP slowly appreciates vs STEP as fees are collected
- Unstake at any time to receive STEP + accumulated yield
The xSTEP/STEP ratio increases over time as trading fees flow into the staking pool. This makes xSTEP a simple way to earn yield correlated with Step's usage.
Step Finance vs Other Solana Portfolio Trackers
| Feature | Step Finance | Sonar Watch | DeBank | Birdeye |
|---|
| LP tracking | Excellent | Good | Good | Limited |
| Multi-wallet | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Transaction history | Yes | Basic | Yes | Yes |
| Yield farming | Yes | Good | Limited | No |
| Native token/staking | Yes (STEP) | No | No | No |
| NFT tracking | Basic | Basic | Yes | No |
| Charts/analytics | Basic | Good | Good | Excellent |
Step excels at LP and DeFi position tracking. For chart analysis and token discovery, Birdeye is stronger. Many Solana users use both.
Tips for Getting the Most from Step Finance
- Check your LP positions weekly: Concentrated liquidity positions go out of range and stop earning fees. Step makes it easy to spot these
- Review IL regularly: High IL in a volatile pool may make it not worth providing liquidity at all
- Use the APR comparison: Before adding liquidity to a new pool, check if current APR justifies the IL risk
- Harvest rewards efficiently: Batch your harvests to minimize gas costs — use the dashboard to do everything in one session
- Export for taxes: Download your transaction history before tax season rather than scrambling later
Summary
Step Finance is the most complete Solana portfolio management tool available. For anyone actively using Solana DeFi — providing liquidity, farming yields, or managing multiple wallets — the ability to see everything in one place is invaluable.
The LP analytics alone justify using it: knowing exactly whether your concentrated liquidity position is in range, how much IL you've accrued, and what your real return is after fees takes minutes on Step versus hours of manual calculation.
