Setting Up Price Alerts

TradingView's alert system is where the platform earns its subscription cost. You can create alerts on price levels, indicator conditions, and custom scripts.

Basic price alert. Right-click any price level on a chart and select "Add Alert." Set it to trigger once or every time price crosses the level. For memecoins, set alerts at key levels: the previous high, a VWAP reclaim, or a round-number market cap threshold.

Indicator-based alerts. After adding an indicator, click on the indicator name and select "Add Alert on..." For example: alert when RSI crosses above 80, or when price closes below the lower Bollinger Band. These fire automatically based on your conditions.

Multi-condition alerts. On paid plans, you can chain conditions. Example: alert when RSI drops below 30 AND price is above VWAP AND volume is above 2x the 20-period average. This filters out noise and only fires when multiple confluence factors align.

Webhook integration. TradingView Pro+ and Premium plans support webhook URLs in alerts. When an alert fires, TradingView sends an HTTP POST to your endpoint with a custom JSON payload. The free plan allows up to 5 active alerts. The Plus plan ($14.95/month) gives 20. Pro ($29.95/month) gives 100. Pro+ ($49.95/month) gives 400, plus webhook support. Premium ($59.95/month) gives 800 alerts.

Pine Script Basics for Solana Signals

Pine Script is TradingView's built-in scripting language. You do not need to be a programmer to use it -- the basics are straightforward and the community library has thousands of published scripts.

A simple example: a script that plots a background color when volume spikes above 3x the 20-period average:

This highlights bars where volume is abnormally high -- often the first signal that a memecoin is getting attention. Combine it with a price direction filter to distinguish accumulation spikes from distribution.

The Pine Script community publishes indicators specifically designed for crypto and memecoin trading. Search the TradingView library for "memecoin," "volume spike," or " detector" to find starting points you can customize.

Getting Solana Tokens on TradingView

TradingView does not natively index every Solana DEX pair. The tokens you can chart depend on the data feeds available:

CEX-listed tokens. If a Solana token is listed on Binance, Coinbase, KuCoin, Bybit, or any other exchange that TradingView integrates with, you can chart it directly. Search for "SOL/USDT" on Binance, "BONK/USDT" on multiple exchanges, or "WIF/USDT" on Bybit. These give you full candlestick data, volume, and all TradingView indicators.

DEXScreener integration. DEXScreener provides TradingView-powered charts for nearly every Solana DEX pair, including newly launched tokens on Raydium, Meteora, and PumpSwap. When you view a token on DEXScreener, the chart component is a TradingView widget with full indicator support. You can add RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, and custom indicators directly on the DEXScreener chart.

Birdeye charts. Birdeye also uses TradingView-compatible charting for Solana tokens. Their token pages include full candlestick charts with volume overlay and indicator support.

Direct pair search. In TradingView's main search bar, try typing the token ticker followed by the exchange. For tokens only available on DEXs, you may need to use the DEXScreener or Birdeye route described above. The practical workflow for most Solana memecoin traders: use DEXScreener or Birdeye for on-chain-only tokens, and switch to TradingView's native platform for CEX-listed Solana tokens where you need advanced alerting and multi-chart layouts.

Best Indicators for Memecoin Trading

Standard technical analysis assumes liquid markets with sustained trends. Memecoins violate both assumptions. That said, certain indicators still provide useful signals when applied correctly:

RSI (Relative Strength Index). On memecoins, RSI is most useful for identifying exhaustion, not overbought/oversold conditions. A memecoin pumping to RSI 95+ on the 5-minute chart often signals that buying pressure is about to stall. This is not a short signal -- it is a "take partial profits" signal. Set RSI period to 7 (shorter than the default 14) for faster-moving tokens.

VWAP (Volume-Weighted Average Price). VWAP acts as a dynamic support/resistance level that accounts for volume. On a memecoin that pumped and is now consolidating, price holding above VWAP suggests buyers are still in control. A break below VWAP with increasing volume is a strong exit signal. Reset VWAP daily for tokens that have been trading for more than 24 hours.

Volume Profile. This shows where the most trading volume occurred at each price level. On memecoins, volume profile reveals the "value area" -- the price range where most participants bought. When price drops back into a high-volume node, expect support. When it drops through a low-volume zone, expect acceleration. Enable volume profile as an overlay in TradingView's indicator settings.

Bollinger Bands. Use 20-period, 2 standard deviations on the 15-minute chart. When a memecoin is in a tight squeeze (bands narrowing), expect a volatility expansion. The direction of the breakout is not predictable from the bands alone, but combining a Bollinger squeeze with on-chain data (whale buys, KOL entries) gives you an edge on direction.

EMA Ribbon (8, 13, 21, 55). A stack of exponential moving averages that fan out during trends and compress during consolidation. On memecoins, the 8 and 13 EMAs crossing above the 21 on the 5-minute chart is a momentum confirmation signal. Not a buy signal on its own, but useful for timing entries when you already have a thesis.
