Pricing and capability flags read from each provider's public pricing and docs pages, verified August 2026. A cross means the capability is not documented by the provider, not necessarily that it can't be built on top of their raw data. CU/credit quotas are not directly comparable across providers — one call can cost 1–100 units depending on the endpoint.

What the columns mean

OHLCV

Candlestick history (open/high/low/close/volume) per token or pair — the input for charts and backtests.

Trade tape

Individual trades per token (wallet, side, size, price, slot) rather than aggregated stats. Needed for flow analysis, sniper forensics and copy-trading.

Wallet PnL

Server-computed profit & loss per wallet — realized/unrealized, win rate, per-position breakdown — without replaying raw transactions yourself.

Bonding phase

Coverage of launchpad tokens (pump.fun and friends) BEFORE they graduate to a DEX. APIs that only index DEX pairs miss a memecoin's entire first phase.

KOL + deployer intel

Curated tracked-trader (KOL) trade feeds and deployer track records (prior launches, bond rate, rug history) as first-class API objects.

Streaming

Push delivery — WebSocket, gRPC or webhooks — instead of polling REST. The note shows the cheapest tier that unlocks it.

x402 per-call

Keyless pay-per-call over the x402 protocol: an AI agent pays per request in stablecoins, no signup or API key. See madeonsol.com/x402.

How it works

Four ways to buy Solana data.

The nine providers are not nine versions of one product — they sit at four different layers of the stack. Knowing which layer you need eliminates most of the table at a glance.

Market-intelligence APIs

MadeOnSol · Birdeye · SolanaTracker

Pre-computed answers: candles, per-trade tapes, wallet PnL, holder breakdowns, trader intel. You pay for the indexing pipeline someone else runs, and query results instead of replaying the chain. Differences live in coverage (bonding-phase, KOL/deployer intel) and pricing model (flat calls vs compute units).

Raw-chain infrastructure

Helius · Shyft

RPC nodes, DAS, parsed transactions, gRPC firehoses of raw chain events. Maximum flexibility, zero pre-computation: a candle or a PnL number is yours to build and maintain. The right layer when your edge IS the custom indexing — and overkill when it isn't.

Query & archive engines

Bitquery

GraphQL over deep multi-chain archives — ask arbitrary questions ('all Raydium trades for this wallet in March') without running an indexer. Priced per query complexity (API points), which suits research and backfills better than hot paths polled every second.

Free lookup endpoints

DexScreener · Jupiter

Keyless or near-free spot lookups: current price, pair stats, token metadata. Perfect for UI hints and sanity checks. The limits are structural, not just rate caps — no history, no per-trade data, no push delivery — so trading systems outgrow them quickly.

Guide

How to choose a data API.

Six questions that decide the choice faster than any feature list.

Coverage

Does it see the bonding phase?

Most pump.fun tokens never graduate to a DEX. If your strategy touches launches, an API that only indexes DEX pairs (DexScreener, Jupiter) is blind to the phase where snipers, bundlers and deployers act.

Pricing model

Flat calls vs compute units

CU/credit systems (Birdeye, Moralis, Helius, Jupiter) price each endpoint differently — a heavy call can cost 100× a light one, which makes bills hard to predict. Flat calls/day (MadeOnSol) or requests/month (SolanaTracker) are predictable but cap bursts.

Intelligence

Raw data or conclusions?

Wallet PnL, KOL feeds, deployer track records and sniper detection are conclusions computed over months of trade history. If the API doesn't ship them, budget the indexing work — it's usually the expensive part.

Streaming

Poll or push?

Alert and copy-trade systems die by polling latency. Check which tier actually unlocks WebSocket/gRPC delivery: $199 on Birdeye, €397 on SolanaTracker, €131 on MadeOnSol, $79 metered on Bitquery.

Chain scope

Solana-deep or multi-chain?

Multi-chain providers (Birdeye, Moralis, Bitquery) win when you span ecosystems. Solana-native ones tend to go deeper on Solana-specific mechanics — bonding curves, launchpads, program-level decoding.

Agent access

Can a bot pay per call?

AI agents can't click through signup flows. x402 lets an agent pay per request in stablecoins with no account — if your consumers are agents, that's a structural difference, not a feature checkbox.

Recommendations

What we'd pick, by use case.

Yes, we sell one of these — so judge the reasoning, not the vendor. Where a competitor is the better fit, it says so.

Memecoin bots, dashboards & alerts

MadeOnSolorSolanaTracker

The two APIs that combine bonding-phase coverage, trade tape, PnL and trader intel. MadeOnSol adds curated KOL feeds, deployer track records and cheaper streaming (€131 vs €397 for WebSocket); SolanaTracker counters with bigger raw request quotas at the mid tiers.

Multi-chain portfolio & wallet apps

BirdeyeorMoralis

Both cover many chains from one integration. Birdeye brings the deeper market-data catalogue including wallet PnL; Moralis brings the cleaner developer platform, Streams, and dedicated pump.fun endpoints — but its Solana coverage skips wallet PnL.

Custom indexing from raw chain data

HeliusorShyft

When your edge is proprietary decoding, buy the firehose, not the conclusions. Helius has the richer parsed-data layer (DAS, Enhanced Transactions, webhooks); Shyft undercuts on unmetered gRPC streaming at $199 flat.

Research, backtests & historical pulls

BitqueryorBirdeye

Bitquery's GraphQL archives answer arbitrary historical questions across 40+ chains without building anything. For token-centric history at REST simplicity, Birdeye's OHLCV V3 and trade endpoints are the pragmatic alternative.

FAQ

Data API questions, answered.

What is the best Solana data API?+
It depends on what you compute yourself. For ready-made memecoin intelligence (KOL trades, deployer track records, sniper detection, bonding-curve coverage) MadeOnSol and SolanaTracker are the specialists. For broad multi-chain market data Birdeye has the largest catalogue. For raw chain access you build on yourself, Helius or Shyft. For historical research across chains, Bitquery's GraphQL archives. Free spot lookups: DexScreener or Jupiter's Price API.
Which API covers pump.fun tokens before they graduate?+
MadeOnSol, Birdeye, SolanaTracker and Moralis all cover the bonding-curve phase — Moralis even has dedicated pump.fun endpoints (new, bonding, graduated). DexScreener's and Jupiter's APIs are built around DEX pairs and tradable tokens, so a memecoin's entire pre-graduation phase is out of scope there. This matters: most pump.fun tokens never graduate, so pair-only APIs miss the majority of launches entirely.
Which Solana API returns wallet PnL without computing it myself?+
Three of the nine: MadeOnSol (/wallet/{address}/pnl with realized/unrealized, win rate, equity curve and per-position breakdown), Birdeye (Wallet PnL and Net Worth Chart endpoints), and SolanaTracker (PnL V2 suite). Moralis offers wallet PnL on EVM chains but not on Solana. Helius, Shyft, Jupiter and DexScreener return raw or pair data only — you'd replay transactions yourself.
Is there a completely free Solana data API?+
DexScreener is free without an API key — 300 requests/minute on pair and token endpoints, 60 on profiles — but has no candles, per-trade data or history. Jupiter's free plan is unlimited at 1 request/second for prices and token metadata. For structured free tiers with more depth: MadeOnSol gives 200 calls/day across 120+ endpoints, Helius 1M credits/month, Moralis 40K compute units/day.
Which API has KOL or smart-money trade data?+
MadeOnSol ships a curated KOL trade feed as a first-class API: named tracked wallets, their live buys/sells with market cap at entry, PnL leaderboards, copy-trade timing analysis and coordination detection. SolanaTracker offers the nearest alternative with performance-ranked trader leaderboards and first-buyer endpoints, but no curated KOL identity layer. The other providers expose raw wallet activity at most.
Which API streams every Solana DEX trade over WebSocket?+
MadeOnSol's DEX firehose streams the full trade tape over WebSocket on the Ultra tier (€131/mo). Birdeye unlocks WebSocket subscriptions (price, transactions, token stats) from Premium at $199/mo. SolanaTracker's Datastream starts at €397/mo. Bitquery streams via WebSocket or Kafka from Pro at $79/mo, metered in stream-minutes and gigabytes. Helius and Shyft stream raw chain data over gRPC — trades, but undecoded.
Can an AI agent pay for Solana data per call, without an API key?+
Yes — MadeOnSol is the only provider of the nine with x402 support: an agent receives an HTTP 402 challenge, pays a few cents in stablecoins (USDC on Solana, or USDG on Robinhood Chain) and gets the response — no signup, no key, no subscription. Bitquery sells MCP server plans but they still use metered API credits with an account.
DexScreener API vs Birdeye vs MadeOnSol — which one do I need?+
They solve different layers. DexScreener: free keyless spot lookups of pairs and prices, nothing historical. Birdeye: metered multi-chain market data — candles, trades, wallet analytics — priced in compute units. MadeOnSol: Solana memecoin intelligence — the same OHLCV/trades/PnL layer plus KOL feeds, deployer track records and sniper detection, at flat calls/day pricing. Many stacks use a free lookup API for UI hints and a paid one for the data their strategy actually runs on.
Do I still need an RPC provider if I use a data API?+
For reading market data: no — that's the point of a data API. You still need an RPC (Helius, QuickNode, Triton, etc.) the moment you send transactions or read custom on-chain state the API doesn't model. Data APIs and RPC providers are complements: one is the pre-computed read layer, the other is your write path. See our separate RPC provider comparison for that choice.

Want the per-provider deep dive? We wrote four: Birdeye alternative, DexScreener alternative, Moralis alternative and Helius for market data — each with an endpoint-by-endpoint migration map and an honest "when they win" section.

Choosing your transaction path instead? That's a different decision — see the Solana RPC provider comparison. Want the full picture of what our own API ships? The Solana API overview and endpoint docs cover all 120+ endpoints.
