How it works
The ten providers are not ten versions of one product — they sit at four different layers of the stack. Knowing which layer you need eliminates most of the table at a glance.
Pre-computed answers: candles, per-trade tapes, wallet PnL, holder breakdowns, trader intel. You pay for the indexing pipeline someone else runs, and query results instead of replaying the chain. Differences live in coverage (bonding-phase, KOL/deployer intel, chain breadth) and pricing model (flat calls vs compute units vs credits).
RPC nodes, DAS, parsed transactions, gRPC firehoses of raw chain events. Maximum flexibility, zero pre-computation: a candle or a PnL number is yours to build and maintain. The right layer when your edge IS the custom indexing — and overkill when it isn't.
GraphQL over deep multi-chain archives — ask arbitrary questions ('all Raydium trades for this wallet in March') without running an indexer. Priced per query complexity (API points), which suits research and backfills better than hot paths polled every second.
Keyless or near-free spot lookups: current price, pair stats, token metadata. Perfect for UI hints and sanity checks. The limits are structural, not just rate caps — no history, no per-trade data, no push delivery — so trading systems outgrow them quickly.

Coverage
Most pump.fun tokens never graduate to a DEX. If your strategy touches launches, an API that only indexes DEX pairs (DexScreener, Jupiter) is blind to the phase where snipers, bundlers and deployers act.
Pricing model
CU/credit systems (Birdeye, Moralis, Helius, Jupiter) price each endpoint differently — a heavy call can cost 100× a light one, which makes bills hard to predict. Flat calls/day (MadeOnSol) or requests/month (SolanaTracker) are predictable but cap bursts.
Intelligence
Wallet PnL, KOL feeds, deployer track records and sniper detection are conclusions computed over months of trade history. If the API doesn't ship them, budget the indexing work — it's usually the expensive part.
Streaming
Alert and copy-trade systems die by polling latency. Check which tier actually unlocks WebSocket/gRPC delivery: $199 on Birdeye, €397 on SolanaTracker, €131 on MadeOnSol, $79 metered on Bitquery.
Chain scope
Multi-chain providers (Birdeye, Moralis, Bitquery, Cielo) win when you span ecosystems — Cielo furthest, at 30+ chains for wallet tracking specifically. Solana-native ones tend to go deeper on Solana-specific mechanics — bonding curves, launchpads, program-level decoding.
Agent access
AI agents can't click through signup flows. x402 lets an agent pay per request in stablecoins with no account. Several providers now offer it (Birdeye, CoinGecko, Nansen, Codex), so the real question is what data sits behind the keyless rail — market lookups, or the KOL/deployer/sniper conclusions an agent actually trades on.

Bitquery's GraphQL archives answer arbitrary historical questions across 40+ chains without building anything. For token-centric history at REST simplicity, Birdeye's OHLCV V3 and trade endpoints are the pragmatic alternative.
