Wormhole vs deBridge, Mayan, Allbridge, Jumper, Across, Squid and Chainflip — the bridges that move value to and from Solana, compared on what matters: how they work, what they cost, how fast they settle, whether you get the native asset, and what secures them. Researched and cross-verified.

How to read this

Mechanism

How the bridge moves value. Lock-and-mint (Wormhole Portal) locks your asset and mints a wrapped version. Intent-based bridges (deBridge, Across, Mayan) have a solver deliver the native asset and settle later. Aggregators (Jumper, Squid) route across several of these.

Native asset

Whether you receive the real token on the destination chain (no wrapper). Only Wormhole Portal here is lock-and-mint; the rest deliver native SOL/SPL assets.

Fee & speed

Intent bridges are usually fastest and cheapest for Solana (Across ~1–2s, deBridge ~0.04% + gas). Aggregators add no fee of their own and surface the best route. Figures move — always check a live quote.

Security model

Each bridge trusts something different: Wormhole's 13-of-19 Guardians, Across's UMA optimistic oracle, Chainflip's 150-validator vaults, Axelar's PoS validators. Intent / 0-TVL designs avoid a pooled-asset honeypot.

Squid & Solana

Squid was incubated by Axelar but reaches Solana and Bitcoin through Chainflip, not Axelar GMP — so its Solana routes are secured by Chainflip, not Axelar.

Token

The bridge's own token where one exists: W, DBR, ABR, ACX, FLIP, and AXL (which powers Squid). Mayan and Jumper/LI.FI had no live token at research time.

How it works

Four ways assets cross to Solana.

Every bridge above uses one of these mechanisms — and the mechanism, more than the brand, decides your speed, cost and risk.

Lock-and-mint

Wormhole / Portal

Your asset is locked on the source chain and a wrapped version is minted on Solana. Broadest reach, but you hold a wrapped IOU that's only redeemable while the bridge stays solvent — wrapped-asset and validator-set risk.

Intent / solver

deBridge · Across · Mayan

You state the outcome you want; a solver fronts the native asset on Solana instantly and settles later. Fast (seconds), cheap, and native — with little or no pooled TVL to exploit.

Route aggregator

Jumper (LI.FI) · Squid

Doesn't move funds itself — it compares 20+ bridges and 30+ DEXs and routes you the cheapest, fastest path, with no protocol fee of its own. Best when you don't want to pick a bridge.

Native cross-chain swap

Chainflip

A cross-chain DEX swaps native BTC or ETH straight into native SOL — no wrapping, no lock-and-mint — using a validator vault network with threshold signatures.

Recommendations

What we'd use, by goal.

Fastest & cheapest

deBridgeorAcross

Intent bridges deliver native assets in seconds for a tiny fee. deBridge (~0.04% + gas) and Across (~1–2s, <0.1%) are the fastest-class routes to and from Solana.

Don't want to pick

JumperorSquid Router

Aggregators compare 20+ bridges and surface the cheapest route automatically — no protocol fee of their own. Squid also reaches Bitcoin and Solana via Chainflip.

Broadest reach

Wormhole

The most-integrated Solana bridge — if a chain or asset is supported anywhere, Wormhole/Portal usually covers it (lock-and-mint wrapped assets).

Native SOL / BTC swaps

Chainflip

A fully native cross-chain DEX — no wrapping. Best for swapping native BTC or ETH straight into native SOL.

FAQ

Bridge questions, answered.

What is the best bridge to Solana?+
It depends on the asset and your priority. For speed and cost on major assets, intent-based bridges like deBridge, Mayan and Across are generally fastest and cheapest. Wormhole is the most broadly integrated, and aggregators like Jumper compare routes for you.
What's the cheapest way to bridge to Solana?+
Intent-based bridges are usually cheapest — deBridge charges about 0.04% plus a small flat gas fee, and Across advertises under 0.1%. Aggregators like Jumper add no fee of their own and surface the lowest-cost route. Fees move with amount and asset, so always compare a live quote.
What's the fastest bridge to Solana?+
Intent and relayer bridges fill in seconds: Across is fastest-class (~1–2s), deBridge settles in seconds, and Mayan's Swift route is ~12s (sub-second claimed for v2). Finality-bound routes like CCTP-based transfers are slower (minutes).
What's the difference between a lock-and-mint and an intent-based bridge?+
Lock-and-mint (Wormhole Portal) locks your asset on the source chain and mints a wrapped version on the destination — adding wrapped-asset risk. Intent-based bridges (deBridge, Across, Mayan, Chainflip) have a solver deliver the native asset and settle later, so you avoid wrapped tokens and usually get faster fills.
Can I bridge native SOL without wrapped tokens?+
Yes — Chainflip, deBridge, Mayan, Across and Allbridge Core all deliver native SOL and SPL assets. Wormhole's Portal, by contrast, is lock-and-mint and produces wrapped assets.
Is Wormhole safe after its 2022 hack?+
Wormhole was exploited for ~$320M in February 2022 via a Solana signature-verification bug; Jump Crypto fully reimbursed users within about a day, and rate limits and circuit breakers were added. No comparable exploit has been reported since. It remains the most-used Solana bridge, but like any bridge it carries smart-contract and validator-set (13-of-19 Guardian) trust assumptions.
How do I bridge from Ethereum to Solana?+
Connect both wallets in an intent bridge like deBridge, Across or Mayan, pick the asset and amount, and confirm — a solver fronts the native asset on Solana in seconds. If you'd rather not pick a bridge, Jumper compares routes and chooses the cheapest for you. Wormhole/Portal also works but delivers wrapped assets.
How do I bridge out of Solana to another chain?+
The same bridges work both directions. deBridge, Mayan, Across, Wormhole and aggregators (Jumper, Squid) move SOL and USDC from Solana to EVM chains; Chainflip and Squid also reach native Bitcoin. Pick the destination chain and asset, and the bridge routes it — intent bridges settle in seconds, finality-bound routes (like CCTP) in minutes.
Can I bridge USDC to Solana directly, without wrapping?+
Yes. Circle's CCTP burns USDC on the source chain and mints native (canonical) USDC on Solana — no wrapped token — and it's available through several bridges and aggregators. CCTP is finality-bound, so it takes minutes. If you want native USDC instantly, an intent bridge like deBridge or Across fronts it in seconds and settles CCTP behind the scenes.
Which Solana bridge is the safest?+
No bridge is risk-free, but the risk profiles differ. Intent and native bridges — deBridge, Across, Chainflip — avoid wrapped-asset and pooled-liquidity risk by delivering native assets and holding little or no TVL. Wormhole is the most battle-tested but carries wrapped-asset and validator-set (13-of-19 Guardian) trust. Whatever you use, check the current audits and only bridge what you can afford to lose.
